Company Description

Babymomsi is an AI-powered digital doula app designed to support new and expecting mothers by preventing and addressing postnatal depression. Recognizing that many maternal mental health needs are often overlooked, Babymomsi prioritizes the mental wellbeing of mothers through a non-pharmaceutical, stigma-free solution. The app features AI-powered mental wellness companionship, CBT-based mood tracking, smart baby care logging, partner guidance, and clinical wellness prompts to reduce emotional overload and ensure mothers feel seen, heard and supported throughout their postnatal recovery and motherhood journey.

Role Description

We're looking for an
AI Engineer (Mobile App Specialist)
to design and scale the intelligence behind Babymomsi. You'll build models that power Momi AI (our maternal wellbeing companion), generate personalised wellness insights, and help detect early signs of postnatal depression risk. This role goes beyond algorithms, you'll craft empathetic, human-centered AI experiences for mobile, blending conversational AI, predictive analytics, and voice interfaces to support mothers 24/7.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, train, and deploy AI/ML models that support natural language understanding, sentiment/mood detection, and predictive risk scoring.
* Integrate conversational AI and voice interactions into the Babymomsi mobile app (LLMs, embeddings, speech-to-text/text-to-speech).
* Collaborate with product and design teams to ensure AI interactions feel empathetic, safe, and clinically aligned.
* Build secure pipelines for processing structured (logs, scores) and unstructured (text, voice) data.
* Optimize AI models for mobile performance and scalability.
* Apply privacy-by-design principles to protect sensitive maternal health data.
* Continuously monitor, evaluate, and improve AI models in production.
* Explore integration with validated mental health scales (EPDS, WEMWBS) to enhance accuracy.

Qualifications

* 3+ years of experience as an AI/ML Engineer or applied Data Scientist.
* Strong background in NLP, conversational AI, and affective computing.
* Hands-on experience with LLMs (fine-tuning, embeddings, prompts).
* Experience building voice-enabled AI experiences (speech-to-text, voice synthesis).
* Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and mobile app integration (Android/iOS frameworks, on-device ML).
* Familiarity with mobile-first optimization of AI models.
* Strong grasp of data privacy, ethics, and bias mitigation in AI.
* Bonus: experience in digital health, femtech, or mental health tech.

What We Offer

* Opportunity to define and scale AI in a mission-led healthtech startup.
* Build at the intersection of AI, mobile apps, and maternal mental health.
* Work with a small, passionate, founder-led team.
* Remote-first flexibility (UK time zone alignment preferred).
* Competitive salary + potential equity.
* A role with direct, measurable social impact: every model you build helps a mother feel supported.
