In line with the Welsh Ambulance Services continued drive to improve the clinical aspirations of our EMS workforce, the Clinical Directorate are delighted to be recruiting for a Professional Development Lead-Frailty and End of Life Care to support the professional development of all ambulance clinicians to meet the needs of our patients in a variety of healthcare settings, aligned to the requirements of our Clinical Strategy.

They will ensure that all EMS clinicians have the necessary and effective clinical supervision of their practice, work within an aspirational career framework and ensure that the organisations clinical development needs are recognised and accounted for.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
* This individual will ensure the delivery of key objectives across a number of priorities, but these will principally focus upon development of the paramedic frailty and EoLC rotation. In addition, this role will work with specialist groups to develop opportunities for the organisation to improve its abilities to secure and grow its provision of falls and EoLC services.
* The Professional Development Lead will be accountable to the Trust for ensuring that direct providers of frail and EoLC patients have effective clinical supervision structures in place, supporting the development of ambulance clinicians in accordance with the ‘Care Closer to Home’ agenda, and ensuring clinically effective delivery of patient care.
* The Professional Development Lead will ensure the maintenance of their own clinical skills, knowledge and practice through regular patient contact and clinical care delivery in a wide range of settings, principally focused around the emergency medical service.
* The post-holder will be expected to analyse and interpret national and local guidelines and procedures to inform the growth of clinical professions across urgent care through the development of a robust, well governed, and aspirational career framework.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Masters in Palliative Care or relevant equivalent discipline.
* Paramedic with current HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
* Post Graduate Qualification in Leadership & Management
* A thorough working knowledge of current issues in the NHS, especially drivers relating to integration of emergency and urgent care
Experience
Essential criteria
* Significant post registration experience working within an extended clinical role.
* Experience of delivering results and managing multiple, complex and competing priorities within defined timescales/parameters
Desirable criteria
* Experience developing and delivering training/educational programmes
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle complex and potentially contentious situations.
* Able to assess risks, anticipate difficulties and successfully address them
* Demonstrates a leadership style, which is visible and democratic
* Ability to manage a varied workload including interpreting corporate strategic direction, attend external meetings, performance action planning and lead or participate in improvement projects
