This role is key in providing secretarial and administrative support to our eight Consultant Histopathologists and Senior Laboratory staff. The department reports surgical histology cases, cytology samples, and supports 33 clinicopathological meetings per month, providing a cellular pathology service to hospital clinicians and GPs in BaNES, Wiltshire and Somerset. We are looking for an individual who has great organisational and IT skills with the experience of meeting tight and varying deadlines and the ability to communicate effectively. You will need to possess accurate audio-typing skills and preferably have a knowledge of medical terminology. Main duties of the job
Responsibilities
* audio-typing of histopathology and cytopathology reports using the Winscribe digital dictation system and the pathology computer system (Ultra)
* responsible with four other secretaries for the preparation of case lists for 33 multidisciplinary team meetings each month, including MDT meetings where patients are identified and a case list is compiled by the department
* support with the coordination and management of histopathology cases for MDTs to ensure patients are actively managed and listed with rollover cases actioned
* other administrative duties contributing to the delivery of a full histopathology service including answering telephone and email queries
* typing external supplementary reports
* secretarial support for eight Consultant Histopathologists, one Specialist Registrar, the Laboratory Manager and Senior Laboratory Staff

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* GCSE Grade C English Language and Mathematics or equivalent
* NVQ Level 3
* Word-processing/Typing-RSA Level II or equivalent in typing and audiotyping or equivalent secretarial qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
* Previous secretarial experience within an acute health care setting as a medical secretary or equivalent
* Recent experience of working within an office environment
* Desirable criteria: Previous experience of Histopathology
* Previous experience of training staff on computer packages
Knowledge
* Excellent knowledge of computerised databases and Microsoft Office
* Experience of inputting accurate and timely data into computer systems
* Detailed knowledge of medical terminology
* Understanding of multidisciplinary team working practices
* Desirable: Understanding of histopathology terminology
Skills
* Excellent audiotyping and touch typing skills with high speed and accuracy
* Excellent verbal and written communication
* Excellent organisational skills to coordinate weekly meetings and manage data collection
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight weekly deadlines
* Desirable: Knowledge of hospital patient administration systems and pathology databases
