Unqualified Maths Teacher

Want a salaried path into teaching?

Start unqualified, build classroom skill, and progress to QTS through a paid route.

*** Unqualified Maths Teacher
*** Teacher training opportunity
*** January 2026 start – Temp to Perm
*** £100 - £140 per day initially
*** Secondary school, Edgbaston
*** Become a QTS Maths Teacher through a paid teacher training route

The Role:
You will begin with a reduced timetable while you learn core routines and department methods. You will support KS3 and KS4 lessons, lead short segments, then take ownership of full lessons with close mentoring. You will plan from the department’s schemes, model worked examples and build fluency with retrieval and spaced practice. You will diagnose misconceptions in algebra, ratio, geometry and data using quick checks, then fix them with step-by-step instruction and guided practice. You will set and mark homework, keep accurate records, and use simple assessment trackers to inform next lessons. You will uphold behaviour expectations at entry, transitions and dismissal, communicate with parents when required, and attend weekly CPD and coaching so your teaching improves every cycle.

The Candidate & Requirements:
You are methodical, clear in your explanations, and steady under pressure. You act on feedback quickly and keep lessons purposeful.

1. Degree, 2:2 or above in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
2. Communication, precise written and spoken English.
3. Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
4. Desire to work in education/with children, strong intent to qualify as a Maths Teacher.
5. Experience with young people (tutoring, mentoring, schools) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This Edgbaston secondary is well led with calm corridors and consistent behaviour routines that make teaching predictable. The maths curriculum is sequenced in small steps with shared methods across classes and regular low-stakes checks, so lesson planning is efficient, and intervention aligns with teaching. The department provides item banks, model solutions, manipulatives where useful, and clear marking guidance. New staff receive a structured induction, a trained mentor, weekly subject CPD and frequent coaching drop-ins with actionable targets. The school has a track record of moving unqualified teachers into paid ITT and then into permanent ECT roles.

How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.
