Job Description
Join our dynamic Nature team as an Associate Ecologist in our UK and Ireland offices, including Manchester, Leeds, Basingstoke, Newcastle, Glasgow, Cambridge, Nottingham, and Liverpool (other locations across the UK may be considered). Our team works on large infrastructure projects in the energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport sectors, as well as smaller local projects, and supports wider AECOM Nature projects nationally and internationally.
Responsibilities
* Lead the planning and delivery of ecological inputs for internal and external clients.
* Produce and technically review ecological assessments including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, Protected Species Baseline Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessment, and Biodiversity Net Gain Calculations.
* Provide technical leadership to support the delivery of proportionate and pragmatic solutions.
* Lead consultation and engagement with clients and key project stakeholders, including planning authorities, statutory bodies and the public.
* Play a key role in developing our technical capabilities and encouraging the embedding of innovation and research.
* Lead production of bids and tenders for ecological services.
* Mentor and support junior staff and peers.
Qualifications
* Demonstratable experience in planning and delivery of ecological services on projects in the UK or Ireland.
* Well‑developed understanding of relevant wildlife conservation.
* Membership of an appropriate professional institution and evidence of working towards chartership (e.g., CIEEM).
* Excellent field skills in at least one specialist area, including protected species licenses.
* Proactive approach to Health and Safety.
* Experience mentoring and supporting ecology team members.
