Job Purpose
The purpose of the Operational Motor Claims Manager role is to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the motor and public liability claims department, ensuring efficient processing, timely resolution, and high-quality service delivery for a fleet of circa 3000.
The Motor Claims Manager will lead the management of motor vehicle and public liability insurance claims. The role involves overseeing all aspects of claims handling—from notification to settlement—while ensuring efficient processes, regulatory compliance, and strategic cost control.
You will act as the key liaison between internal stakeholders, insurers, brokers, legal teams, and third parties to ensure all claims are handled effectively and resolved in a timely and professional manner.
Job Responsibilities
Claims Management:
* Oversee the full lifecycle of motor insurance claims, from FNOL (First Notification of Loss) through to settlement.
* Manage claims intake, investigation, assessment, and resolution.
* Liaise with insurers, brokers, third-party administrators, repairers, and legal representatives.
* Monitor and review open claims to ensure timely closure and effective cost control.
* Review on hire documentation and assess against damage estimations
Motor Insurance Claims:
* Manage incidents involving company or client vehicles, including own damage and third-party claims.
* Coordinate with fleet managers, drivers, and vehicle repairers to process claims efficiently.
* Handle uninsured loss recovery with the companies nominated 3rd party provider.
* Ensure thorough investigation, documentation, and legal compliance
Team Leadership & Compliance:
* Supervise and support a team of claims handlers/administrators
* Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and policy standards in claims handling.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant insurance laws, industry regulations, and case law.
* Liaise with the Fleet, Operations, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure appropriate internal processes are followed and continuously improved.
Reporting & Analysis:
* Maintain accurate records of all claims and prepare regular reports on claims activity, trends, costs, and performance indicators.
* Analyse claims data to identify patterns, recommend improvements, and support risk management initiatives.
* Support driver training, fleet safety initiatives, and accident reduction strategies through insights derived from claims data.
General Experience / Qualifications
* Proven experience in managing motor insurance claims for a large commercial fleet (1,000+ vehicles desirable).
* Proficient in claims management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Risk management or legal training background
* Minimum 5 years of experience managing motor and public liability insurance claims.
* Strong knowledge of insurance principles, liability law, and policy interpretation.
* Experience liaising with insurers, legal teams, and third-party administrators.
* Qualified within Insurance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Law, or related fields
* Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
* High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong leadership and team management skills
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
