Job description

As an Operational Officer you could be placed in a variety of teams:

Do you have an eye for detail? You could be checking and processing documents and recording data
Do you enjoy helping people? You could be responding to our customers, including on the telephone and handling correspondence from them
Do you enjoy working in a bustling environment? Youll be meeting deadlines and targets
Do you enjoy working with others? Youll be part of a team, to deliver a great service to our customers
Do you want to make a difference to the UK economy? You could be ensuring our powers are put into action, helping to fight economic crime and ensuring our customers are doing everything they should be.
Person specification

As an Operational Officer youll:

Be a great communicator both in writing and when speaking to people, including on the telephone
Be able to provide excellent customer service
Be adaptable sometimes ways of doing things change and we need people who can change too
Be well organised and efficient - enjoying working in a fast-paced environment where you meet agreed goals
Be accurate where youre focused and have an eye for detail
Be confident to make decisions where you can explain why youve made them
Have good IT skills youve not got to be an expert, just somebody who feels confident using a computer
Youll also receive all the training you need from our friendly colleagues and managers no previous experience is needed as well give you all the training and support you need

Where will you be working?

We have a variety of Operational Officer roles available in a range of exciting teams and well allocate successful candidates to roles. Requirements for office attendance will vary across teams - some of these roles may include the opportunity for hybrid working and some may be entirely office based roles. Hybrid workers can work partly from the office and partly from their home, depending on business need.

All successful candidates should expect to need to attend our Cardiff office for up to 5 days per week during their initial training period.

What will the process look like?

Well sift all applications this involves reading through them all, please bear with us as this can take some time. We may raise the score required at sift stage to progress to interview if we receive a high number of applications.
If youre successful at sift stage, well invite you to an in person Assessment Centre at our Cardiff Office - which will include an assessed group activity to show us your skills at working together with other people and an interview where well ask Success Profiles behaviour and strength based questions to find out more about your skills and experiences. Successful candidates need to be successful in both the Assessment Centre and interview.
We'll sift all applications we receive at the end of June and anticipate holding assessment centres and interviews in Mid July with results shared with all candidates in late July-early August. We anticipate some of these roles starting from September onwards, whereas others may start later in the Autumn and possibly later into 2025. Please bear in mind these dates might need to change - we will keep you informed as you move through the process.
Our interviews will include Success Profiles behaviour and strength based questions. Our assessment centres will include group activities, one of which will be assessed looking at the Success Profiles behaviour 'Working Together'.

Our recruitment process is underpinned by the principle of recruitment based on fair and open competition with decisions made on the basis of merit, as outlined in the Civil Service Commissioners Recruitment Principles.

Whilst there are 15 roles advertised we intend to have a considerable sized reserve list from this campaign and when roles become available offer people from our reserve list in merit order. Depending on business need, we may offer roles from our reserve list as fixed term appointments if all permanent posts are filled.

Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
