Working remotely as a Healthy Lifestyle Advisor (HLA) on ABL’s Central Online Weight Management Service, you will support, motivate, and advise adults and/or families who are overweight or obese. You’ll play a vital role in helping people start the life‑changing processes necessary for sustainable weight loss and long‑term wellbeing, with a particular focus on promoting physical activity as a key component of healthy lifestyle change.
Main duties of the job
We’re looking for a passionate and motivated individual to deliver ABL Health’s adult and family weight management programmes through online group sessions and one‑to‑one support. This role involves delivering evidence‑based education on physical activity, nutrition, and behaviour change, while supporting clients with tailored care plans in collaboration with GPs and psychotherapists. You’ll be responsible for monitoring client progress, delivering specialist interventions (including pharmacological groups), contributing to service development, and supporting community engagement and recruitment. The ideal candidate will use a client‑centred approach, apply motivational interviewing techniques, and have the flexibility to work remotely and travel as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Deliver adult and family weight management programmes through online group sessions and one‑to‑one support, with a strong emphasis on physical activity.
* Lead and contribute to multi‑disciplinary assessments with GPs and psychotherapists to create tailored, person‑centred care plans.
* Deliver evidence‑based education around physical activity, nutrition, and behavioural change aligned with ABL’s curriculum.
* Use a client‑centred approach with skills of positive psychology and motivational interviewing.
* Monitor clients’ progress through regular consultation and use tools such as Microsoft Excel to identify treatment needs.
* Assess and support eligible clients for referral to tier 4 bariatric surgery, staying up‑to‑date with NICE guidance.
* Co‑produce session materials with clients and stakeholders.
* Submit regular case studies for the contract performance report and support ABL Health’s social media pages.
* Train and support new staff and volunteers.
* Work with individuals and groups using SMART goal setting.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of special nutrition pathways such as Low Carb, Healthy Fats and Time‑Restricted Eating.
* Deliver pharmacological weight management specific groups such as Orlistat and Saxenda.
* Develop and deliver live webinars on key nutrition trends and topics.
* Keep detailed files, record data accurately, and ensure all documentation is completed correctly.
* Undertake mandatory and additional skills training as required.
* Understand and apply ABL Health policies and procedures.
* Engage and recruit potential clients at promotional and community events when required.
* Develop curriculum resources for service development.
* Participate in team and company meetings such as MDT and clinical supervision.
* Maintain regular CPD in line with AFN regulations and work towards full registration when appropriate.
* Organise own workload by priority, deadline, and daily administration tasks.
* Demonstrate personal and professional development aligned with lifelong learning ethos.
* Operate within clinical governance to maintain and improve patient care, quality and efficiency.
* Work from home in a peaceful and private environment.
* Travel flexibly across the project area.
Qualifications
* Qualified in fitness or exercise (e.g., Level 2/3 Personal Training, Exercise Referral, or similar).
Experience
* Experienced in delivering behaviour change and health promotion.
* Skilled at using digital platforms for remote support (Zoom, MS Teams, CRM systems).
* Confident communicator with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a caseload.
* Passionate about physical activity, nutrition, and community wellbeing.
* Flexible to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
* Able to work autonomously while staying connected to the wider team.
