We are looking for 2 motivated and flexible medical receptionists to join our busy practice. The role includes a 30‑hour post over 5 days Monday‑Friday and a 20‑hour post over 4 days Monday‑Friday. You will be responsible for all reception duties – face‑to‑face and telephone care for patients, staff and visitors – and some administration duties. Excellent customer‑service and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to remain calm and work under pressure. Flexibility with regard to working hours and the ability to work weekends on a pro‑rota basis are required. A background in primary‑care or NHS administration is desirable, but training is available.
As well as routine reception tasks you will be required to perform the following responsibilities:
* Provide an effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors.
* Handle all general enquiries, explain procedures, and make new and follow‑up appointments in a non‑disruptive manner.
* Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients.
* Process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail (hardcopy and electronic).
* Maintain telephone performance standards.
* Enter requests for home visits onto the computer for referral to the Duty Doctor, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details.
* Process repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collection within 48 hours.
* Action administrative responsibilities accurately and in a timely manner.
* Inform patients of relevant charges for private (non‑General Medical Services) services, accept payment and issue receipts.
* Computer data entry, allocation and collation – processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures.
* Provide clerical assistance to the practice as required (word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning).
* Keep the waiting room, reception area, notice‑boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free of obstructions and clutter.
* Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners or Practice Manager. Work may be required at other sites and on weekends and bank holidays.
