Clinical Support worker - Eden Unit
Position: Fixed‑term, 12 months, 70.5 hours per week for Band 3 Clinical Support workers.
Closing date: 22 April 2026.
An exciting opportunity to work on the Eden Unit at Penrith Hospital. The role involves providing high‑quality care in a community ward setting, supporting patients with complex needs, preparing for hospital discharge, and promoting independence through reablement and long‑term condition management.
Main duties
* Work under the direction of a registered nurse, undertaking delegated patient nursing and care duties.
* Perform clinical observations and record patient information.
* Support patients with personal hygiene and activities of daily living.
* Assist in facilitating hospital discharge and manage long‑term condition care.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including health and social care professionals.
* Maintain accurate documentation and comply with data protection and safety legislation.
* Cover shifts as per rota, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
Qualifications
* Level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent competency workbook in patient and clinical care duties.
* Knowledge of theory and practice related to clinical care.
* Experience of care procedures and clinical observations.
* Knowledge of data protection legislation and health and safety at work legislation.
* National care certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencement.
* Numeracy and literacy level 2.
* Willingness to undertake additional training for Clinical Support Workers.
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience of working in health and social care settings.
* Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalating changes or findings.
* Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision.
* Understanding of robust, accurate, clear, timely documentation.
* Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective teamwork.
* Knowledge of safeguarding.
* Understanding of work‑related boundaries.
* Awareness of GDPR and the need for confidentiality.
* Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies.
* Knowledge of clinical policies and procedures.
* Evidence of understanding of Trust business and experience of working in the Trust previously.
* Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
* Time‑keeping, planning and prioritisation skills.
* Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems.
* Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on patient/service user interactions, observations and metrics.
* Understanding of holistic, person‑centred care and related procedures.
* Initiative and compassion in providing dignified care.
* Desire to encourage patients to remain independent.
* Ability to work with a wide range of people at all levels.
* Caring, empathic, motivated with a proactive approach.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Commitment to providing high quality patient care.
