As a result, alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Control Of Work Senior Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you’ll be doing
* Strategic planning and implementation – provide and support the overall CoW strategy, manage the system and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure performance.
* Process optimisation – support improvement of work‑management processes, ensuring they are efficient, effective and aligned with operational priorities and safety standards; competent in hot works, confined‑space entry and SIMOPS control, and knowledgeable in MEI work and construction activities.
* Documentation and recordkeeping – maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records, reports, and documentation related to CoW activities, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.
* Safety and compliance – ensure all CoW activities are conducted in accordance with relevant safety regulations and standards, promoting a culture of safety and risk awareness.
* Performance monitoring and reporting – monitor KPIs related to CoW activities, identify areas for improvement, and report on performance to management; competent with electronic permit systems, running, using, and administering the permit system.
* Stakeholder management – collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication regarding CoW activities.
* Change management – support changes to CoW processes and procedures, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
* Problem solving and issue resolution – identify and solve issues related to CoW activities, ensuring timely and effective solutions.
Responsibilities
Responsible for running and optimizing the processes related to managing work activities within an organization, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards. This role involves developing and implementing CoW strategies, managing related documentation and records, and leading a team of professionals.
Who we’re looking for
* Minimum of NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
* Strong history in issuing work‑control permits.
* Strong leadership and team‑management skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* In-depth knowledge of CoW processes and best practices.
* Proficiency in relevant software and tools.Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
* Understanding of relevant safety regulations and standards.
* Experience in working within a team developing systems and managing safe systems of work.
