Main Duties of the Job
As a highly valued member of our professional, friendly and compassionate team you will perform orthopaedic surgical procedures on patients referred to the hospital. Duties will include pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative activities.
Responsibilities
* Provide orthopaedic surgical procedures and clinics on patients referred to the Peninsula Treatment centre and satellite sites, working in accordance with treatment centre protocols and working practices.
* Perform joint surgery including primary knee arthroplasty, primary hip cemented & hybrid, primary hip uncemented.
* Conduct minor orthopaedic surgery such as arthroscopy of the knee, carpal tunnel release, minor hand procedures, joint aspiration and/or injection, other minor musculoskeletal procedures and forefoot surgery.
* Carry out preoperative, intra-operative and postoperative activities covering all aspects of patient care.
* Commit to an average 48‑hour week (typically 40 scheduled, 8 unscheduled) and provide out‑of‑hours on‑call cover on a rota basis.
* Provide flexibility to meet patient needs and services requirements; opportunities for further clinical work may arise beyond the basic contract.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Wide training and experience in orthopaedics.
* UK Registerable Medical Degree.
* Past record of academic achievement.
* GMC Specialist Registration in relevant specialty or immediate eligibility for registration.
* FRCS(Orth) or European equivalent.
* Extensive knowledge and skills of relevant orthopaedic practice.
* Excellent clinical skills.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Flexible, objective and assertive.
* Willing to meet volume and clinical productivity targets.
* Compliance with all legal and professional work permit/visa requirements.
Desirable
* Training in management.
* Experience of working in a surgical centre.
* Understanding of audit and Clinical Governance.
* Evidence of clinical outcomes.
* Higher degree.
* Teaching qualification.
* Member of relevant Royal College.
* Experience in training.
* Evidence of appraisal.
* Clinical Governance knowledge.
