About the Role
We are part of the Court of Protection team, responsible for managing finances and other affairs of individuals who lack mental capacity, and for providing legal advice and representation in related matters.
Responsibilities
* Taking instructions from clients and assisting with providing legal advice, including obtaining evidence and achieving appropriate resolutions for the clients.
* Achieving time recording and fee income targets to ensure profitable working.
* Attending and contributing to team/practice area meetings and complying with directions and decisions to ensure team objectives are achieved.
* Keeping up to date with changes in relevant law and practice, and attending appropriate training events to maintain up-to-date legal knowledge and best practice.
* Liaising with core stakeholders including case managers and other fee earners regarding care issues that arise on all directly employed care packages, such as changes of hours and matters involving support workers.
* Assisting with the management of client finances under the supervision of the deputy, e.g., paying invoices, purchasing equipment, setting up new bank accounts and standing orders, managing household utilities, preparing spreadsheets, and taking notes during client meetings.
* Liaising with the Court of Protection.
* Demonstrating empathy and compassion to help guide clients through challenging personal circumstances.
* Maintaining a friendly, enthusiastic, and can-do approach.
Qualifications
* Some previous paralegal experience desirable.
* Law degree or equivalent desirable.
