Overview
A January 2026 start date would be ideal in order to facilitate a smooth and effective handover process; however the school is also open for a May 2026 start date. A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Art Department at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School following the decision by the current post holder to retire after 18 years' dedicated service to the school. The Head of Art will be responsible for the teaching and learning of Art throughout the school, ensuring that every student is positively encouraged to fulfil their potential.
Art Department
The Art Department at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School comprises the Head of Art, a part-time teacher of Art (0.2), and a part-time Art Technician (0.8). The department has two classrooms, an office and a store room, located in the Theatre block with the Design & Technology, Music and Drama departments. There is also a kiln room in the Theatre block. The school has an ambitious plan to colocate all Performing and Creative Arts subjects in the same building by constructing a mezzanine level in the neighbouring Old Gym. Students perform very well in their Art GCSE and A Level examinations. In future years, we would love to see more students opting to study Art at Key Stages 4 and 5; interviewees will be asked about their strategies for achieving this at interview. The architecture of the school provides a wonderful canvas and work from students of all ages is on display on walls and in display cabinets around the site.
