About the role The Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities is recruiting an Assistant Research Manager (PGR) to join our Research Professional Services (PS) team as the key contact for our postgraduate researchers (PGRs - currently 200) offering expert advice and support. As Assistant Research Manager, you will work closely with academic and PS colleagues to deliver an exceptional PGR experience from application to completion through: Providing guidance on University PGR policy and processes at Faculty level offering direction and support to enquiries from PGRs and academic supervisors Overall responsibility for the administration of research degrees in the Faculty Planning and managing workload for PGR administration, ensuring team members are trained, supported and working with accuracy Identify opportunities to promote a positive research culture across media, arts and humanities subject areas Provide financial management for a small number of PhD studentships, bursaries, grants and the internal PGR budget. Collaborate with the Sussex Researcher School on the AHRC Doctoral Landscape Programme Deputise for the Senior Research Manager (MAH) on PGR matters You will join a friendly and supportive team and enjoy peer support and collaboration as part of the wider Research Portfolio. You will represent the interests of MAH PGR researchers wherever you go, informing discussion and projects at University level. About you Ideally you will be educated to degree level or have an equivalent relevant level of experience in Postgraduate Research. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills that enable you to connect with a range of people including applicants, current PGRs, Academic Leads for PGR as well as colleagues from across the University You will work well both as a team player and being confident to work on your own initiative, setting priorities and managing your workload as well as members of your team. You will be a conscientious and authentic people manager who prioritises staff wellbeing and has the ability to delegate and develop strong working relationships. You will have a solid understanding of finance management and a systematic problem-solving style. You will be able to advise senior colleagues with confidence on policies and procedures related to PGR administration.
