Overview
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor will have responsibility for managing the Quarry, taking ownership of performance and quality. You will be responsible for achieving and maximising the efficiency of the production process. As Section Manager - Mechanical you will also be proactive and adopt a 'hands on' approach to all maintenance activity including Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), defect and risk management, breakdowns, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and project engineering work for both fixed and mobile plant.
This role is based at Tarmac Whitwell Quarry near Worksop, Nottinghamshire and is easily commutable from Sheffield, Chesterfield, Rotherham, Worksop, Bolsover, Dronfield, North Anston, Retford, Doncaster and Mansfield. This role generally runs Monday to Friday with occasional Saturday mornings to meet plant operational and customer needs.
We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Supervisor to lead our friendly team at Whitwell Quarry.
Responsibilities
* Managing, coaching and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
* Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
* All aspects of budgetary control for all site operations
* Maintaining and implementing existing and new Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
* Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the site and the planned preventative maintenance of all the site's equipment, fixed and mobile
* Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
* Issuing safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
* Managing proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
* Collating and report on monthly performance KPI and driving operational performance through KPI's
Qualifications
* Possess proven competence of different methods of extracting raw material without risk of causing injury or damage whilst optimising overall operating costs
* Understand the Quarry Regulations 1999 and possess Reg 8.1c accredited status
* Know the techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals
* Demonstrate performance and competency requirements for all operational roles on site including contractors and sub-contractors
* Understand the principles of operation of mobile and static plant equipment to produce and process a consistent product to customer and BS EN specifications minimising any waste
* Possess mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems knowledge, with an understanding of electrical systems
* Demonstrate confidence and the ability to challenge people appropriately and hold them accountable for job completion and quality of completion
* Working knowledge of continuous Improvement techniques, Lean Methodology, Six Sigma and FMEA and Root Cause Analysis investigative methods
* Completing plant and vehicle maintenance checks and inspections as required
* Applying basic maintenance practices (check levels, parts, wear, pressure and sensors, grease and lubricate equipment)
* Undertaking and/or reviewing maintenance inspections and report defects
* Understand the maintenance processes required to maximise availability and cost base on the range of mobile and static plant and be able to undertake basic maintenance tasks
* Communicate confidently using a range of techniques
* Confidently be able to plan, structure and present meetings and briefings
* Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
* Be organised and capable of managing competing priorities
