The Phlebotomy Department at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals to join our valued team of Phlebotomists. You will play a vital role in supporting patients throughout their care journey, taking blood samples within hospitals, GP surgeries, and community clinics. Open Evening: 13th April Interview Date: 17th April About the Role · 25 hrs P/W · Working flexibly across multiple sites including Ashford Hospital, St Peter’s Hospital, Woking Community Hospital, and clinics in Hampton, Twickenham, Hanworth, and any future service locations. · Shifts will include early starts from 07:00, with the latest finishing at 20:00, covering 4 out of 7 days. · Travel between sites is essential for this role. Able to deal with aggressive nervous and distressed patients Empathy in dealing with anxious patients Ability to communicate where there are obstacles to understanding Clear legible handwriting with the ability to write on a small surface area. Good hand eye co-ordination and manual dexterity. For more information about a career at ASPH please visit: www.asph-careers.org Detailed job description and main responsibilities Take blood from patients ACF or Dorsal veins being mindful of the potential harm from bruising, hematoma’s, nerve injury and incorrect diagnosis or treatment that can result from poor practice. Patients may be on wards, in outpatients, community clinics from children to adults inclusive of patients receiving end of life care. Show empathy and an understanding for patients and work to meet the individual needs of the patients in OPD, ward areas recognizing challenges such as dementia, children, anxiety, physical and mental disabilities. Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients calmly and politely even under stressful circumstances, deal with patients while maintaining confidentiality. Carry out safe methods of disposal of sharps, contaminated waste, general waste and confidential documents. Ensure samples sent to the laboratory are suitable for analytical/therapeutic or diagnostic testing by meeting all the pre and post analytical criteria. Work as part of a team and when required alone.
