The Portchester Practice is looking for an enthusiastic and committed GP to join our friendly and supportive team for a fixed-term maternity locum position.

The role would suit an experienced GP or a GP who is new to practice and would benefit from additional support and a friendly environment to develop.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide high-quality general medical services to our registered patient population, including:
- Conducting face-to-face and telephone consultations
- Managing clinical presentations within a total triage model
- Providing appropriate clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management plans
- Completing associated clinical documentation and administrative tasks generated from your own consultations
- Working collaboratively with the wider practice team to provide excellent patient care
The role includes:
- 10 x 15-minute face-to-face appointments per session
- 2 x 10-minute telephone appointments per session
- Flexibility regarding working days by mutual agreement
- No requirement to hold a patient list
- No home visiting commitments
- No duty doctor sessions

Job Title
Locum General Practitioner Maternity Cover
Job Purpose
To provide general medical services to patients registered with The Portchester Practice during a period of maternity leave cover.
The post holder will provide safe, effective and appropriate clinical care in accordance with professional standards, NHS requirements and practice policies. The role will involve assessing, diagnosing and managing patients presenting with a wide range of clinical conditions within a primary care setting.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the practice team to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and contribute to the effective functioning of the practice.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Providing general medical services to patients through face-to-face and telephone consultations
- Assessing, diagnosing and managing acute and chronic medical conditions
- Developing appropriate treatment and management plans, including prescribing, investigations and referrals where clinically appropriate
- Providing appropriate advice, education and support to patients and carers
- Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous and confidential patient records
- Reviewing and acting on investigation results, correspondence and clinical information relating to patients seen
- Completing clinical administration associated with consultations undertaken
- Making appropriate use of practice clinical systems and digital tools to support patient care
- Working collaboratively with GPs, nursing staff, administrative teams and wider multidisciplinary colleagues
- Participating in clinical discussions and practice meetings where appropriate
Scope of Clinical Duties
The post holder will undertake routine general practice consultations and will not be responsible for:
- Holding a registered patient list
- Undertaking home visits
- Providing duty doctor sessions
The post holder will be responsible for managing clinical work and associated administration arising from their own consultations.
Clinical Governance and Quality
- Maintain professional standards in line with GMC Good Medical Practice guidance
- Work within their scope of competence and seek appropriate support when required
- Participate in clinical governance processes and contribute to maintaining high standards of care
- Support the practice approach to continuous improvement and patient safety
- Ensure compliance with confidentiality, information governance and data protection requirements
Communication and Team Working
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and colleagues
- Work as part of the wider practice team to support coordinated patient care
- Liaise appropriately with secondary care, community services and other healthcare professionals
- Contribute positively to the practice working environment
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain appropriate professional registration and NHS Performers List status
- Comply with practice policies and procedures
- Maintain mandatory training requirements relevant to the role

£375 to £425 a session, dependent on experience plus on costs.
