Job Description
This role requires a self-starter capable of developing new technological areas leveraging existing expertise, including CO2 adsorption. Responsibilities include planning, procuring, and managing the concrete laboratory in compliance with regulations. You will lead a team of civil engineers, applying your cement and concrete chemistry knowledge to carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) in concrete, and evaluate CCU techniques on the properties and long-term performance of cement-based materials.
Person Specifications and Responsibilities:
* Experience in independent research, designing and conducting scientific investigations
* Understanding of concrete mix design, characterisation, and standards
* Minimum 5 years post-PhD experience leading independent research
* Knowledge of carbonation mechanisms and assessment of CO2 uptake and concrete performance over various life stages
* Deep understanding of concrete and cement chemistry
* R&D experience in developing low-carbon concrete
* At least 2 years of experience working in the UK or Europe
* Experience in computational chemistry, analysis, and simulation of synthetic materials
* Experience in carbon capture, utilisation, and storage
* Experience in patent writing and grant proposal development
* Experience in mineralising CO2 for various applications
* Ability to develop and evaluate R&D strategies aligned with company goals
* Review and management of concrete chemistry projects, ensuring alignment with objectives
* Managing laboratory requirements, procurement, and budget utilization
* Planning and evaluating external resources and project outputs
* Overseeing new project development, ensuring strategic alignment
* Negotiating contracts and maintaining vendor and partner relationships
* Assessing and mitigating technological risks
* Monitoring technology scalability and application in different production scenarios
* Tracking progress towards R&D milestones and patent/IP management
* Benchmarking technology performance against competitors
* Leading product development projects for CO2 sequestration in concrete
