Job Description
A principal engineer at Wentworth is responsible for undertaking civil, structural, and geotechnical design/checking and method development tasks from client briefs with no supervision. They use their extensive knowledge, skills, and experience to identify and implement practical, cost-effective, and safe solutions, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, Eurocodes, and industry best practices. A principal engineer functions as an autonomous team member with potential full delegated responsibility for significant or complex projects. They plan and execute tasks to ensure quality, cost, and time objectives are met, and ensure adherence to the company's quality management system.
Responsibilities
* Promote Wentworth to internal and external clients.
* Function as an autonomous team member, potentially leading significant projects or complex tasks.
* Coordinate with technicians and junior engineers to develop work efficiently and within budget and timescales. Provide technical support and mentorship.
Technical Skills and Experience
* Undertake design/checking tasks from client briefs independently, developing concept and detailed designs using appropriate tools.
* Identify and implement practical, cost-effective, and safe solutions in accordance with legislation, Eurocodes, and industry guidance.
* Extensive knowledge of industry-standard structural/geotechnical software, with the ability to produce sketches manually or via CAD.
* Ensure team members are adequately briefed and supported, maintaining ownership of the process and final product.
* Experience with BIM and ISO 19650 standards.
Health, Safety & Environment
* Ensure compliance with legislation, including The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
* Identify and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks.
* Document and communicate design risk assessments and residual risks.
