Our established Nursing team of 18 currently comprises ofTreatment Room and Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Long-term ConditionsNurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and HCAs, each having their own specialistrole within the practice.
The nursing team is supported well by the GP partners andManagement team, as well as the rest of "Team Fireclay" whichincludes a large multi-disciplined team of GPs, Physios, Clinical Pharmacists,Care Co-ordinators and our amazing admin and receptionists.
With a focus on working together, Fireclay Health staffstrive to deliver excellent patient care whilst enjoying coming together toshare and develop best practice. Protected time is given for training, teammeetings and clinical supervision, where we recognise there are importantlearning opportunities.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be part of the nursing team, responsiblefor treatment room care.
We can offer some flexibility with shift patterns betweenMonday to Friday, working 24-30 hours week, with an additional 1 in 4 Saturdaymornings per month.
We are also open to supporting training for those lookingfor a career path within Primary Care. Support and training will be offered.
The nursing team, provide a wide range of services,including wound management, child and adult immunisations, cervical cytology,sexual health and contraception, chronic disease management and travel health.

As a registered teaching practice, we are used to supporting nursing students and GP trainees and integrate them into the team. We offer an extensive induction, after which you will work autonomously, always with the support of the team around you. Training and opportunities to learn new skills are available and development is actively discussed with the team.

Job responsibilities
To assist and perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care,such as routine BP checks, ECG, suture and clip removal, BMI and lifestyleadvice.
To develop and implement agreed wound care plans, following local andnational evidence-based guidelines, inclusive of the treatment of minortraumatic wounds within own level of competency.
Following recognised Leg Ulcer management training and the completion ofcompetencies, to undertake leg ulcer care and compression bandaging, followingagreed care plans in line with local/practice policy.
Following training and competency assessment, to undertake adult NHSimmunisation programmes and ensure vaccines/injections are administrated underpatient group directives or patient specific direction.
Following training and competency assessment, to undertake cervical screeningtests
To undertake administration of prescribed medicines via oral, IM, SCroutes, following competency-based training and practice policy.
To undertake thecollection of pathological & microbiology specimens including venepuncture,swabs, urine culture in line with local guidelines
To support chronic disease management undertaking preliminaryinvestigations for Type 2 diabetes patients, such as foot checks and with theview of undertaking further training in the future to deliver full reviews ifappropriate courses become available.
To undertake any investigatory test, such as automated Dopplers andSpirometry, taking basic history and referring patients to relevant clinicianfor interpretation/ planning of care.
To be able to provide appropriate self-care advice for patientspresenting with minor illness within own level of competency and referring toGP/ANP where appropriate.
Chaperone and assist patients where appropriate who are being examinedby another clinician.
To assist GPs with minor surgery and well women procedures.
To maintain effective infection control measures in line with localguidelines and practice policy.
To be able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis, according to the currentUK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and medication.
Maintain adequate stock within the treatment room and assist with there-stocking of other clinical rooms as required.
To participate in developments within the practice and support QOFrequirements.
Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recordedin the patients notes and on computers, as per NMC code.
Attend and actively participate in practice meetings as required.
Awareness of statutory protection procedures including referral andrecognition of signs and symptoms of child abuse.
Awareness of referral mechanisms for mental health issues, familyviolence, vulnerable adults and addictive behaviours.
Actively take part in mandatory andinternalexternal training as requested.
To be registered with the NMC. Work in accordance with the NMC Code ofConduct and Scope of Practice for Nursing Associates
Adhere to andfollow all policies and protocols as listed in the Staff Handbook and contract
Person Specification
Experience
* -Experience of working within a healthcare setting prior to foundation degree training.
* -Able to give lifestyle advice and promote self-care.
* -Wound care knowledge
* -Knowledge of National immunisation and screening programmes
* -Ability to undertake clinical skills relevant to primary care, such as ECG, venepuncture, suture removal, urinalysis and swab taking.
* -Maintain accurate and comprehensive records
* -Understands principles of Clinical Governance
* -Fluency in written and spoken English
* -A team player who contributes to and facilitates decision-making and develops trust as part of a multidisciplinary team
* -Enhanced DBS clearance
* -Willingness to undertake ongoing training as necessary
* -Excellent organisational abilities
* -Effective communications skills
* -Preferably experience of working within a Primary Care setting.
* -Experience of working with the EMIS clinical system
* -Working knowledge of any area of Chronic Disease management
* -Leg Ulcer management knowledge
* -Spirometry/Doppler skills and competency.
* -Completed training to be able to administrate injections following PGD/PSD
