Job Description:
Marine Trading Manager
Aviva Marine has a long-standing history in the Marine insurance market dating back to 1824 and is now a leader in the cargo market, holding a significant share in the IUA cargo company market and a growing presence in the UK regional Marine market.
We are eager to expand this sector and are looking for a Marine Trading Manager to join our dedicated team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to contribute to our continued success and growth in Marine insurance.
About the role:
The Marine Trading Manager will primarily engage with the market, including brokers, current and prospective customers, and industry peers. You will help drive growth strategies, manage portfolio development, and oversee business acquisition channels. Additionally, you will be responsible for mentoring junior underwriting staff and providing thought leadership.
You will be part of a large team, with ample opportunities to enhance your technical skills. Success will be measured by pipeline delivery, GWP and profit growth, positive stakeholder relationships, and fostering a strong team culture.
You will be accountable for:
* Aligning business activities with plan requirements for Marine insurance.
* Achieving volume, quality, and profitability targets for growth opportunities.
* Building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients.
* Managing risks according to plan, including metrics for GWP, NWP, Loss Ratio, Expense Ratio, and Combined Ratio.
* Making case-by-case judgments to ensure strategic and governance compliance.
Qualifications and experience:
* Strong underwriting expertise in cargo and freight liability risks.
* Experience managing a portfolio with an understanding of key metrics.
* Excellent relationship-building skills with brokers and industry contacts.
* Confidence in negotiations and articulating ideas clearly.
* Results-driven with effective planning and prioritization abilities.
What we offer:
We are committed to supporting our colleagues through competitive salaries, bonuses, pension schemes, generous holiday allowances, discounts, share plans, supportive policies, flexible benefits, and opportunities for volunteering and wellbeing support.
We promote inclusivity and welcome applications from diverse backgrounds. Flexibility in working hours, locations, and arrangements is available to suit individual needs and business requirements.
