Overview
Principal Transport Planner role at SCP (part of the RSK Group). SCP Transport is expanding operations and opportunities are open for progression through demonstrated ability and commitment.
The Role
As a Principal Transport Planner you will possess experience, knowledge and technical expertise to assist the project manager on commissions. Maintain excellent knowledge of national and local planning guidance and technical design standards and stay up-to-date with tools to ensure accurate transport planning advice. You will provide essential support for more senior personnel to ensure successful delivery of commissions and provide expertise in highway engineering and transportation planning. A proactive approach and understanding of the financial and project management skills required to maintain the firm’s competitiveness are required.
Key Responsibilities
* Be prepared to act as an occasional direct point of contact on project-related matters.
* Assist senior personnel in identifying internal and external resources and skills required to fulfil each commission within budget and timescale.
* Coordinate with other consultants and external project team members to ensure information and resources alignment.
* Inform directors of financial implications and risks associated with commissions.
* Liaise with the client to report issues affecting the brief or timescale.
* Liaise and negotiate with local planning and highway authorities, including attendance at meetings and public consultation events as necessary.
* Have a reasonable understanding of the Planning Appeal process and provide expert guidance to the appeal team, including preparing written evidence where necessary.
* Ensure adherence to the company’s Quality Assurance procedures on each commission.
* Understand local and national planning policies and guidelines related to transportation and development.
Key Skills & Experience
* Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to delegate, supervise and mentor junior team members. Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a consultancy or local authority.
* Strong knowledge of transportation planning and traffic engineering principles and techniques; proficient in Microsoft Office, TRICS, CAD and swept path analysis.
* Educated to HND or degree level in a relevant field such as Transport Planning.
* Full UK driving licence.
