The Mellon Centre for Migration Studies (MCMS), at the Ulster American Folk Park (UAFP), near Omagh in Co Tyrone, furthers research, teaching and publication in the field of Irish Migration Studies. Housed in a well-equipped library building, the Centre's resources include an extensive Migration Studies Library and an Irish Emigration Database ofsome 17,000 transcribed historical documents. The Centre operates as a public facility, users of which include research scholars, students, teachers, local historians, genealogists and museum visitors. As an integral part of the Ulster American Folk Park (UAFP), which is also part of National Museums NI, the MCMS team works closely with UAFP colleagues in the support of curatorial, education and visitor programmes on site and in devising longer term strategies for the intellectual/physical development of the museum. Since its inception, in 1994, the Centre has developed strong links with Europe and North America and is part of an expanding network of migration institutions worldwide, which include universities, museums, libraries and archives. The MCMS mission is to serve the community as a leading international institution for the study of human migration, focusing on the peoples of Ireland world-wide. The Outreach and Engagement Officer will assist in the development of the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies as an open and accessible resource, for research and learning, which will benefit a broad range of users and enhance the profile of the Centre and the understanding of our work.
