Axtell Ltd is a reputable and forward-thinking surfacing contractor operating across the Southeast, specializing in highways, commercial, and infrastructure sectors. We focus on high-quality asphalt surfacing works and are seeking an experienced Asphalt Surfacing Estimator to join our Surrey team.
This is a key role within a professional environment emphasizing quality, safety, and operational excellence.
The Role
The successful candidate will prepare accurate estimates for asphalt surfacing projects, mainly in highways and infrastructure. You will liaise with clients, suppliers, and delivery teams to ensure efficient proposals.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare detailed cost estimates for surfacing works, ensuring accuracy and compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
* Interpret contract documents, specifications, drawings, and technical info to compile tenders.
* Liaise with supply chain partners for pricing of plant, materials, subcontract services, and labor.
* Conduct site assessments and pre-tender visits to evaluate project complexity.
* Identify value engineering opportunities and risks.
* Assist in negotiations and pre-contract handovers.
* Maintain knowledge of market rates, materials, and surfacing methodologies.
* Update estimating systems with pricing and project history.
* Require minimum 3 years’ experience in asphalt surfacing or civil engineering estimating (Highways sector).
* Strong understanding of asphalt materials, applications, laying techniques, and highways standards (e.g., SHW, CDM, Chapter 8).
* Proven track record in estimating surfacing works for local authority, highways, and commercial contracts.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (Causeway, Candy, etc.).
* Full UK driving license and willingness to attend sites across the Southeast.
* Attention to detail, commercial awareness, and time management skills.
* Legal right to work in the UK; applications from outside the UK will not be considered.
