An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced secretary to join the Clinical Chemistry Admin Team.

Key responsibilities include providing a comprehensive service to consultants and speciality teams with minimal supervision, organising workload, coordinating activities with other medical secretaries, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring accurate recording of referrals and patient pathways.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive support to consultants and speciality teams, including nurse practitioners and clinicians.
* Organise workload and coordinate activities with other medical secretaries to ensure efficient service delivery.
* Maintain and manage 18‑week pathways, including tertiary referrals to external trusts, ensuring accurate recording on the PAS system.
* Track referrals to ensure patients are reviewed promptly and check that follow‑up appointments are arranged in conjunction with the Referral to Treat (RTT) pathway.
* Mentor, train and supervise relevant staff as required.
* Handle annual leave requests and sickness absence return‑to‑work interviews.
* Support consultants in non‑clinical activities such as preparing presentations, taking minutes of meetings, setting agendas, and circulating supporting documents.
* Type dictation from audio transcription of clinical correspondence and documentation, and type discharge summaries as appropriate.
* Maintain an effective track of inpatient referrals and ensure all correspondence relating to patient care is acted upon in a timely manner.
* Work independently using judgment, acquired knowledge and tact to resolve queries or refer to the appropriate person.
* Promote effective flows in the department and cover leave to ensure the office runs smoothly.
Qualifications
* Fast, accurate keyboard skills.
* Knowledge of medical terminology (advantageous).
* Previous experience working within an NHS office environment (advantageous).
* Initiative‑taking attitude and excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with both patients and colleagues.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
