Social Media Strategy Lead (Volunteer)

This is not a typical posting role, we have content volunteers. We need a strategic lead to define content pillars, campaign structure and tone, align social media with fundraising goals, and provide light-touch oversight within clear safeguarding standards.

This role is focused on someone to design and oversee the strategy:

Developing a clear, coherent social media strategy aligned with our fundraising, research and programme priorities

1. Creating content pillars, tone guidance and brand positioning
2. Designing simple systems for planning, scheduling and reviewing content
3. Providing light-touch oversight and mentorship to volunteer content creators
4. Ensuring safeguarding, dignity and survivor agency remain central to all communications

You will not be expected to create all content yourself. Instead, you will:

5. Translate organisational priorities into structured content plans
6. Build monthly or quarterly campaigns aligned with fundraising and programme milestones
7. Develop briefing templates for volunteers
8. Review and refine content before publication where appropriate
9. Help us measure performance and adjust strategy

There is optional scope to take on a front-facing communications role if desired, including presenting research insights or appearing in short videos. This is entirely optional and would be supported by our safeguarding and communications standards.

This is a shaping role. You will help define how HEP UK presents itself publicly at a critical stage of growth.

The ideal volunteer will be articulate and thoughtful, with strong communication skills and good judgement. Much of our work involves communicating about human trafficking, girls’ protection, education, and survivor-led programmes, so sensitivity, care, and respect for dignity are essential. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of safeguarding, consent, and responsible storytelling, and who is willing to work within clear boundaries and guidance.

We are particularly keen to hear from people who are early in their career, recently graduated, studying, or building experience in communications, digital media, or the charity sector. This role offers a genuine opportunity to gain hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful social impact. You may already create content for social media, be confident speaking on camera, or be interested in developing these skills as part of your personal or professional growth.

Key qualities and skills we are looking for include:

10. Strong written communication skills and an ability to adapt tone for different audiences
11. Confidence using social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, or similar channels
12. An interest in ethical storytelling and communicating complex topics clearly and respectfully
13. Curiosity about how digital tools, including AI, can be used responsibly to support content creation, scheduling, or insight generation
14. Ability to work independently, manage time well, and communicate clearly in a remote team

Experience in any of the following areas:

15. Creating social media, video, or visual content (for personal, academic, or voluntary projects)
16. Presenting information or speaking to camera
17. Supporting campaigns, fundraising, or public engagement activity
18. Working or volunteering with charities, education projects, or social justice initiatives

Above all, we are looking for someone who shares HEP UK’s values of compassion, integrity, education, and protection. The successful volunteer will be thoughtful, reliable, open to learning, and motivated by the opportunity to help amplify survivor-led work that supports girls and young people in Ghana.

This role helps Hope Education Project UK to:

19. Raise funds to cover essential UK overheads so the charity can keep operating and remain compliant
20. Show clear activity and credibility to potential funders while we apply for foundation grants
21. Raise our public profile and awareness of our education and anti-trafficking work in Ghana
22. Support fundraising for specific projects and programmes in Ghana
23. Strengthen our communications through ethical, survivor-led storytelling
24. Take part in a marketing mentorship programme with a US-based charity, helping apply learning in real time
