Pixmore Junior School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable, and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Caretaker. This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming school environment. Key Responsibilities: Ensure that the school buildings and the site are secure, including during out of school hours. Act as a designated key holder, providing out of hours and emergency access to the school site. Carry out routine maintenance work on school premises and procure quotes for work requiring specialist skills. Operate and regularly check systems such as heating, cooling, lighting and security (including CCTV and alarms). Arrange and undertake regular maintenance and safety checks for aspects of the school site that you have been trained for in line with responsibilities outlined in the Health & Safety policy. Oversee onsite maintenance/cleaning contractors, checking that work is completed to required standards and within required timescales. We are looking for someone who: Is energetic, trustworthy, can take the initiative and takes pride in their work Has a practical, hands-on approach and is confident with DIY tasks Works well independently and as part of a friendly, supportive team Understands the importance of confidentiality and cost-effectiveness in a school setting. This role would suit candidates of any age, including younger applicants or those who are actively retired. All training will be provided as part of a comprehensive induction – this will include training by HfL Education, Hertfordshire County Council as well as through external contractors whose systems are used within school. Working Hours: This is a 30 hour a week, split-shift role over 52 weeks a year. Hours during term time: 30 hours a week, split shift pattern. Ideally 7:00am-11:00am and 2:30pm-4:30pm daily but this can be discussed. Hours during school holidays: 30 hours a week - flexible hours dependent on planned works etc This is a 52 week per year contract subject to the successful completion of a probationary period. Annual leave (25 days plus paid bank holidays) to be taken during school holidays. Ideally, the successful candidate will live locally.
