To lead the design and development of Exterior Trim systems at Polytec UK. The role will require experience in developing Exterior Trim in a variety of materials depending on the customers' requirements and our internal capabilities. Based on our customers' requirements you will be responsible for approving the initial concept layout to ensure the assembly meets the stiffness and durability conditions - ie solar loading, thermal expansion and high speed aerodynamic forces set out in the test plan. While developing the concept layout it will be necessary to work with the manufacturing team to understand the optimum assembly process that can be achieved within the current manufacturing constraints and the production tooling engineers to ensure the single parts can be formed while meeting tough internal cost and weight targets. This will be a leadership role but based on resources requirements it will be necessary to own your own project work ensuring a controlled production release to meet the project requirements, whilst ensuring your team also plan and meet the production release dates.,
* Ensure you work with the Polytec PEP Process, meeting the Gateway deliverables on time.
* Provide resource plans to deliver the customer requirements in the RFQ.
* Align the team resource to deliver future customer work and highlight areas where resource needs to be increased or reduced based on project requirements.
* Ensure the development of 'World Class' Exterior Trim based on benchmark data, latest design innovation and CAE techniques.
* Lead and manage the system DFMEA's and support with the creation of the Test and Validation plan.
* Develop the design to ensure it addresses all the failure modes highlighted in the DFMEA.
* Provide technical support to your team when required and challenge the development process to ensure the delivery of 'World Class' Exterior Trim systems.
* Work with the project team members to deliver a cross functional development process where the production release has been reviewed and approved cross functionally before the release date - including 2D drawings and tolerances where required.
* Plan out the Prototype and Production Releases and ensure the dates are kept.
* Use the Test and Validation plan as verification of the engineering design and not as a development phase.
Educated to degree level (preferably Masters) in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent NVQ Level 7 qualification.
* Working in cross-functional teams / matrix organizations.
* Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements.
* Track record of successfully managing multiple large-scale projects.
* Excellent level of detail, numeracy & accuracy.
* Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with strong interpersonal skills.
