Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
* Operational responsibility and managerial oversight of a large multi‑site, multi‑disciplinary department.
* Lead governance, training, accreditation and regulatory activities.
* Line manage a large multidisciplinary team of Biomedical Scientists and other scientific and admin staff.
* Manage a delegated budget and act as authorised signatory for Trust‑standing financial instructions.
* Contribute to service development through participation in governance procedures and NPP network projects.
About the role
The Clinical Biochemistry service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a busy 24/7 service delivered across two large teaching hospitals. The successful candidate will plan, organise and deliver activities, ensuring financial targets are met and that accreditation and regulatory compliance are maintained.
Qualifications
An experienced HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist in Clinical Biochemistry, educated to master’s level, with evidence of leadership experience. A management or leadership qualification and significant experience in Clinical Biochemistry, quality management systems and leading large scientific teams are desirable. Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills are required.

The department is accredited to ISO15189 and IBMS as a training laboratory in both Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology.
