THE COMPANY
Based in Featherstone near Pontefract, our client is a well-established and forward-thinking organisation with a strong presence in their sector. Known for their supportive team culture and commitment to excellence, they are now looking for a motivated and experienced Payroll Assistant to join their close-knit finance department. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in a busy payroll function, working closely with the Payroll Manager to ensure the smooth and accurate running of payroll operations.

THE ROLE
As the Payroll Assistant, you will play a key role within the finance team, reporting directly to the Payroll Manager. You’ll be responsible for supporting the full payroll cycle using Miracle Pay, ensuring timely and accurate processing of all employee payments. This includes managing overtime, mileage claims, and lodge allowances, as well as handling statutory documents such as P45s, P60s, and P11Ds. You will also assist with year-end reporting and ensure that all statutory payments, including SMP, SSP, and SPP, are processed correctly alongside pension contributions and other deductions like Attachment of Earnings orders. This role will also see you acting as a key point of contact for payroll-related queries, requiring you to liaise confidently with employees and external providers. You’ll need to stay up to date with the latest payroll legislation to ensure full compliance and contribute to wider payroll administration and project work within the team. The role is ideal for someone who can work independently, shows initiative, and is comfortable in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and confidentiality are essential.

REQUIREMENTS
We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can hit the ground running. You’ll be comfortable managing your own workload while supporting a busy finance team.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
• A minimum of 1 year’s experience in a similar payroll position
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
• A proactive, adaptable approach and a willingness to learn
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative team spirit
