As a Buyer, you'll play a pivotal role in coordinating purchasing and supply chain operations, ensuring cost-effective procurement and effective inventory management. Working closely with the Senior Buyer and Operations Director, the Buyer will help align purchasing strategies with our organisational objectives, strengthen supplier relationships, and optimise supply chain performance to meet customer needs and drive business growth.
A brief snapshot of the Buyer role:
* Purchase goods, materials, and services in line with cost, quality, and delivery targets.
* Act as a liaison between procurement and internal teams such as operations, engineering, and finance, providing timely updates and facilitating cross-functional communication.
* Investigate and address supplier performance issues, ensuring corrective actions are taken and supporting invoice reconciliation.
* Develop and maintain long-term partnerships with key suppliers, conducting regular performance evaluations and feedback sessions.
* Oversee inventory management to maintain optimal stock levels and minimise holding costs, collaborating with warehouse and logistics teams.
* Conduct research for new products and suppliers, evaluating them for quality, reliability, and sustainability.
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations across the supply base, promoting ethical sourcing and environmental responsibility.
* Continually improve your own performance through training and development, role-modelling Farrat values in all interactions.
What we're looking for in a Buyer:
* NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) in supply chain, logistics, or a related field, or other relevant certifications.
* At least 2 years' experience in supply chain roles with hands-on operational delivery, including inventory management, supplier performance monitoring, and procurement.
* Proficiency in supply chain management software and systems, including ERP and inventory management tools.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Excel or similar analytical tools.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and build strong relationships.
* A continuous improvement mindset, with experience identifying and implementing process improvements.
* Adaptability and resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
* Experience in engineering or manufacturing environments and familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems is advantageous but not essential.
