Offer description

Flexible Location

In June 2025, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care introduced two key frameworks: the Population Health Framework and the Service Renewal Framework (SRF). The SRF sets out an ambitious vision to drive innovation and enable more integrated delivery across Scotlands health and care services. As part of this transformation, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) will come together to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland in April 2026. The new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.

To learn more about the new organisation, please read the public consultation paper, NHS Delivery

Established as a Special Health Board, NHS Education for Scotland is the provider of leading-edge specialist learning, education and skills development for all health service employees in Scotland. These General Practice Fellowships are for one year, from August 2021. Doctors from overseas wishing to be considered for these fellowships will need to achieve an overall score of 7.5 out of 9 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test.

You must have completed your General Practice Specialty Training within the last 5 years prior to taking up post.

General Practice Fellowships in Health Inequalities - 3 x 0.5 wte posts

Salary will be £86,387 pa. Any 2026/27 salary uplift will be applied.

Interviews will be held by MS Teams on late April/Early May

The Health Inequalities Fellowship is particularly suited to doctors who have recently completed GP Specialty Training who may have had some previous experience of working in a deprived area and have an interest in developing specific skills related to Health Inequality which are relevant to the health needs of Scotland.

Commitment-

0.5 wte (5 sessions per week)

Clinical component The West Region of Scotland Fellowship normally consists of five sessions per week working in the Glasgow Homeless Unit. In the South East and East there will be 2 to 3 sessions in the Access practice. This includes the provision of general medical services but with an emphasis on the general practice aspects of high deprivation. The part time posts will allow time to continue to develop generalist skills in the context of service general practice (eg through a locum appointment) while undertaking a tailored programme of exposure and training in relation to the Fellowship.

The Academic component will involve being attached to the regional NES Postgraduate GP unit with opportunities to become involved with educational developments, quality assurance initiatives and evaluation/research. Individuals will be encouraged to start a postgraduate qualification relevant to the Fellowship.
