Vehicle Fitter (Mechanic/HGV) - Public Sector Craigavon Rate: £16.89 per hour Contract: Fixed Term Contract - 6 Months (with potential extension) Hours of work - 37 hours per week, (4 day week) worked between Monday to Sunday 6.30am to 4.15 pm. Rotating rest day during the week. The post holder may also be required to work evenings, weekends and public holidays to meet the needs of the service. Provide an out of hour, response to emergency situations when required Ashton Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of a public sector organisation for two experienced Vehicle Fitters (Mechanic/HGV) based in Craigavon. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified vehicle mechanics to join a busy fleet maintenance operation supporting a large and diverse range of vehicles, plant and specialist equipment. The successful candidates will play a key role in ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant and operational while contributing to the efficient delivery of essential public services. The Role You will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics and repairs across a varied fleet including: Light commercial vehicles and vans Heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) Refuse collection vehicles Road sweepers Grounds maintenance equipment Plant and specialist machinery You will also assist with vehicle inspections, fault finding, breakdown response, fleet compliance and maintaining accurate maintenance records. The role may involve supervising temporary staff, supporting training activities and acting as Foreperson on a rotational basis when required. Key Responsibilities Diagnose, repair and maintain fleet vehicles, plant and machinery Carry out preventative and scheduled maintenance programmes Attend roadside breakdowns and emergency call-outs Complete vehicle safety inspections and pre-MOT/PSV checks Use computer-based diagnostic equipment Carry out repairs on hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and electronic systems Maintain accurate workshop and fleet records Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety regulations Support the supervision and training of agency and temporary staff where required Essential Criteria Applicants must have: City & Guilds/NVQ Level 2 in Motor Vehicle or HGV Studies (or equivalent) A minimum of three years' post-apprenticeship experience in motor vehicle maintenance Knowledge of electrical diagnostic systems Strong understanding of health and safety procedures Full Category B Driving Licence valid in the UK Ability to work independently and as part of a team Desirable Criteria City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle or HGV Studies Experience maintaining hydraulic equipment and electrical systems HGV maintenance experience Category C&E Driving Licence Working Pattern 37 hours per week Working between Monday and Sunday Hours generally between 6:30am and 4:15pm Rotating rest day pattern Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays when required Participation in emergency out-of-hours response arrangements may be required Ashton Recruitment is Acting as a Recruitment Business
