Job Title: Estimator - Civils, Groundworks & Road Surfacing Location: Surrey Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 (DOE) Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent Company Overview: A well-established civil engineering contractor based in Surrey is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their growing commercial team. Specialising in groundworks, road surfacing, and general civil engineering projects across the South East, the company delivers high-quality services to a mix of public and private sector clients. Projects typically range from small-scale works to large multi-million-pound schemes. Role Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for groundworks, road surfacing, and associated civil engineering works. Working closely with the pre-construction and operations teams, the Estimator will play a key role in securing new business and ensuring profitability on projects. Key Responsibilities: Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for a variety of civil engineering and surfacing projects. Analyse drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive and competitive pricing. Engage with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotes and build strong relationships. Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings where necessary. Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options within each tender. Work closely with the commercial and operational teams to ensure seamless project handovers. Maintain accurate records of tenders, cost breakdowns, and pricing libraries. Monitor and analyse market rates, material costs, and industry trends. Requirements: Proven experience as an Estimator in the civil engineering or groundworks sector (essential). Strong knowledge of groundworks, road surfacing, drainage, and general civils. Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a strong attention to detail. Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office suite. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Full UK driving licence.
