Brief Description
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a strategic and influential Head of Health, Safety & Environment Partnering who can inspire, challenge and support our teams to deliver safer and more sustainable outcomes across the railway. You'll be a confident leader, capable of building strong relationships with senior stakeholders while providing expert guidance on HSE risks, opportunities and best practice. About The Role (External)
About the team..
The Health, Safety & Sustainability (HSS) team provide subject matter advice, assurance, direction, and support to Route Services business areas, delivering on the HSS strategy, on high-risk areas of improvement and Occupational Health and Wellbeing. The team takes a lead role on all areas of HSS by providing support to Route Services functional teams and working with them to deliver strategic HSS objectives to support the business with a Railway Fit for the Future, Everyone Home Safe Every day and Everyone Fit for the Future.
What does the average day look like?
In this role, no two days are the same. You'll work closely with senior leaders to shape the direction of safety, sustainability and environmental performance across Route Services, offering expert guidance and ensuring our plans and controls are firmly embedded in everyday practice. You'll help refine and improve our management systems, develop competence frameworks and support teams in managing contractors and suppliers safely and compliantly. Collaboration is key - whether you're partnering with the HSE Director on strategic initiatives, consulting with trade unions, or acting as the main point of contact with enforcement authorities. You'll also play a vital role in navigating CDM responsibilities, providing clear, informed advice that helps teams manage risks confidently and deliver exceptional standards across all areas of our work.
Essential Criteria
* Member of a relevant professional body with chartered status (e.g. IOSH, IIRSM) and/or educated to degree level
* Relevant experience at a senior level in managing specialist teams in support of the delivery of major construction projects and programmes
* Practical experience in the development, implementation and delivery of health safety and environmental (including Construction Design & Management Regulations) management systems within major construction programmes
* Practical understanding of Construction Design & Management Regulations application and applicability within the railway and associated controls, including Principal Contractor Licensing, ROGS, Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment
* Good understanding of risk management
* Good understanding of sustainability in the design and delivery of projects
* Excellent report writing and presentation skills
* Strong influencing and leadership skills
* Good knowledge of construction health, safety and environmental legislation
