Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for the mechanical infrastructure at Furness General Hospital and Millom Hospital. This includes being the Lead Mechanical AP (Authorised Person), Lead Ventilation AP, Lead Water Safety AP and managing a team of deputy APs, ensuring compliance with HTM and H&S regulations.
Responsibilities
* Manage internal and external labour compliance with HTM and H&S regulations.
* Oversee mechanical aspects of property maintenance for trust and other organisation properties.
* Supervise Estates Officers and carry out line manager duties.
* Train junior management staff and provide work experience, upskilling and competency‑based task training.
* Manage departmental budget and labour management system.
* Deputise for the Estates Manager and manage minor project and capital works.
* Monitor energy usage and carry out Estates surveys and returns.
Qualifications
* Recognised craft apprenticeship or equivalent training and relevant certification.
* Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
* Recognised H&S qualification.
* Authorised Person for specialist NHS HTM disciplines.
Desirable Criteria
* Management qualification.
* Corporate membership of an appropriate body, staff management and leadership.
* Financial management.
* Relevant experience of working in healthcare engineering or building services installation in a Management position.
* Thorough knowledge of HTM 01 to 08.
* Thorough knowledge of statutory and mandatory regulations.
* Excellent communication on all levels.
* Proven leadership and team building skills.
* The ability to analyse data, technical drawings and complex instructions.
* To be able analyse problems, to think quickly and respond to difficult and contentious situations.
* Proven negotiating skills, ability to comply with the Trust's policies and procedures including Governance and Standing Financial Instructions.
* Flexibility in working hours.
* Ability to travel as required.

The salary advertised is for full‑time hours. If the post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro‑rated. For NHS Agenda for Change pay‑scales new entrants typically start at the first pay point of the relevant band. Applicants will receive a DBS check; enhanced disclosure costs £55.38 and standard £27.38, which can be paid over 1–3 months.
