English Teacher

Key Stage: KS3 and KS4
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare and deliver inspiring English lessons that meet the needs of learners with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and SEND.
Differentiate content to ensure access to learning for students with a range of abilities and educational gaps.
Promote literacy development through engaging, creative teaching strategies.
Set clear academic and personal progress targets, using assessment to track and adapt learning.
Collaborate with the wider team (TAs, SENCO, therapists) to support students holistically.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed classroom environment where students feel respected and valued.
Contribute to behaviour management strategies and positive behaviour plans.
Build strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues, maintaining high standards of safeguarding and professionalism.Must-Have Skills & Qualifications:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Experience teaching English at KS3/KS4 level
Passion for inclusive and therapeutic education
Understanding of SEMH needs, trauma-informed practice, and how these impact learning
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Ability to inspire, motivate and re-engage disengaged learnersGood to Have:
Experience working in a specialist or alternative provision setting
Familiarity with functional skills and/or GCSE English curriculum
Knowledge of EHCP processes and individual learning plans
Experience working collaboratively with support staff and multi-disciplinary teams
Training in de-escalation strategies or positive behaviour support (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA)
