Consultant Surgeon in ENT

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is seeking to appoint a permanent consultant to work with a committed team in our ENT Department. The main base for this position will be Royal Derby Hospital due to a weekday on call commitment at that site. However, timetabled activity will be split between UHDB sites.
We are looking for someone who has thorough general specialty experience. The incumbent would be expected and encouraged to develop sub specialty interest to fit in with the needs of the department. An interest in Otology would be particularly desirable.
Main duties of the job
A strong commitment from the appointee to the department and involvement with activities within the department such as audit, appraisal and assessment, clinical governance and development of guidelines is expected. The successful applicant will be expected to work as part of a team of consultants and will be required to contribute to the ongoing development of the ENT Department at UHDB.
Applicants must hold a licence to practice at time of application.

Job responsibilities
This post is for 10 programmed activities and the postholder will be expected to participate in a 1:5 weekday non-resident on-call rota and a 1:10 weekend non-resident on call rota.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Eligibility
* MBBS or equivalent
* FRCS (Oto-HNS) postgraduate qualification or equivalent higher qualification
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application
* GMC Specialist Register for ENT Specialty OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR If applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a CESR application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC
* Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty
Clinical Experience
* 1 year experience in a UK Healthcare setting
* A minimum of 12 months experience in Surgery
* Interest in an area of Adult ENT with a specialist interest in Otology complimentary to existing consultants
Management and Administrative Experience
* Experience of formal presentations
* Evidence of ability to work as part of an MDT, sharing administrative duties
* Attended a management/leadership course
Teaching, Research and Audit Experience
* Evidence & experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
* Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
* Experience of & commitment to clinical audit and/or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP)
* Evidence and ability to assess & apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice
* Specific teaching qualification
* Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under-graduates
* Attended a recognised teaching training course
