Job Overview
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest mental health Foundation Trusts in the country, offering a range of mental health services across Birmingham and Solihull. The women's secure service at Ardenleigh provides medium and low secure inpatient care for women with complex mental health needs, and the post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality clinical care.
Main Duties
You will provide medical leadership to the secure women's service, managing an indicative caseload of 10 patients and retaining consultant responsibility for an average of 2 patients during the initial six months of discharge. The role involves conducting assessments for women referred to the service, leading a weekly prison clinic at HMP Foston Hall, and contributing to the development and delivery of secure mental health care across the region. There are opportunities to take on additional clinical sessions and pursue relevant clinical interests.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Expected to be approved to act as an approved clinician for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 prior to commencement of post
* Obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register; or within six months of the award of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in a psychiatric specialty; or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register
* Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development
* Substantial experience of psychiatry, including work with people suffering from severe mental illness and complex presentations
* Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate/postgraduate level
* Evidence of potential for effective leadership and commitment to clinical audit within a multi‑disciplinary team
* Ability to work creatively within a multi‑disciplinary team and willingness to be involved in management of the service
* Able to participate in a consultant on‑call rota and to travel
* Experience serving a multi‑cultural, multi‑ethnic population and completing service improvement projects or research
