Bolton Libraries, Museums and Culture are recruiting an experienced Museums and Heritage Manager to lead and manage a team delivering services across Bolton’s museums, archives, aquarium and heritage spaces. The role will oversee collections development, play a lead role in planning and delivering extensive programmes of exhibitions and events, and prioritise projects and partnerships that support community priorities, enhance visitor experiences, and promote access to heritage.
Responsibilities
Day to day you will manage budgets, seek out funding opportunities, support staff development and promote volunteer opportunities. You will be responsible for managing risk and compliance in this service area, including maintaining standards set by accreditation and zoo licence schemes. You will represent the service at various levels, deputising for senior leadership when needed, and balance the needs of multiple projects and partners simultaneously, including capital projects, heritage programmes, external funders, and colleagues across various council departments.
About You / Qualifications
We are looking for a great communicator who can represent the service at multiple levels, navigate complex projects, and demonstrate strong organisational skills. You should be able to develop and manage budgets, secure funding, and foster staffing and volunteer development. Experience in heritage management, collections oversight, and coordination of exhibitions and events is essential.
