Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Medical Secretary to work 15–17 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Responsibilities include clerical support, correspondence, referral management, authorisation and maintaining patient confidentiality.
Main Duties
* Handle daily incoming and outgoing correspondence, letters, and GP dictated letters.
* Create patient referrals and set up or chase hospital and practice appointments.
* Authorise information to the DVLA, Benefits Office, parking badge permits and bus passes.
* Issue notification letters for patient referrals to NHS consultants and private specialists.
* Prepare requests for patient authorisation of medical records to be forwarded to solicitors or police.
* Co‑ordinate with solicitors regarding accident claim forms.
* Photocopy patient medical records as requested.
* Manage the Choose and Book system for patient referrals.
* Handle desk enquiries and patient telephone calls.
* Raise invoices for GP reports and chase payment.
Qualifications & Experience
* Good computer skills and familiarity with the SystmOne clinical system.
* Typing experience and proficiency.
* Experience with letter composition and routine office administration.
* Knowledge of referral systems and general practice procedures.
* Experience in invoicing GP services and managing payments.
* Good standard of education up to GCSE level.
