Overview

Welcome to FCMS! We are looking for an experienced Urgent / Emergency care practitioner who has extensive clinical experience in minor injuries and illness, in an urgent and/or primary care setting, to work in our services across Doncaster. The candidate will be a Non-Medical Prescriber and possess an accredited minor illness course with the ability to assess and treat a full range of adult and paediatric, acute and urgent conditions.

Hours: Part / Full time (full time is 37 hours)

Pay: 23.61 - 27.01 per hour depending on experience (pending pay review)

Golden hello 2500 offered paid in two instalments over first 6 months pro rata

Main duties of the job

You will work with our friendly, supportive, ever-expanding team of clinicians here at FCMS Urgent and Emergency Care, Yorkshire. To deliver high quality NHS care to the people of Doncaster, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The post holder will be expected to work across all areas including but not limited to the Urgent Treatment Centre UTC, the Same Day Health Centre SDHC, the ECP home visiting service and the OOH triage services. The services we run allow patients to access same day health services and support NHS services across Doncaster, serving a population exceeding 300,000. Job location and structure

Urgent Care Services, Doncaster, with locations including Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Same Day Health Centre in Doncaster. Working pattern: Full-time and Part-time roles available.


Key responsibilities

* The post holder will practice under senior supervision as a practitioner, participating in the care of and undertaking assessment, diagnosis, treatment / referral and discharge of patients presenting with minor injury and illness within agreed parameters
* Provide advanced clinical skills and advice demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to identification, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of a client group whilst working autonomously
* Provide advice, information, knowledge and support to staff
* Identify local, demographic, cultural and environmental factors that influence the health and quality of life
* Utilise non-medical prescribing qualification adhering with local formularies, policies and Clinical Governance to provide appropriate non-medical prescribing support for the organisation in adherence to Clinical Governance frameworks and in adherence to the agreed policy
* Undertake annual audit of prescribing practices
* Ensure that child protection and vulnerable adult legislation is adhered to within their own practice and the service
* Assist with the development and evaluation of policies guidelines protocols for advanced and specialist clinical practice
* Continually review and evaluate own role and clinical practice informing the annual review process with the Clinical Lead
* Plan and manage their own workload and the workload of the service, in a flexible manner, ensuring that service provision meets the needs of patients
* Promote a positive relationship with all stakeholders within the service
* Contribute to the clinical governance process, including adverse incident reporting / investigation and the management of complaints, as appropriate
* Be involved in peer review of own practice and that of others
* Be flexible to support the need of the service, across both sites and the home visiting service
* Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct or other relevant professional body


Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone\'s responsibility, and all employees are required to act in such a way that at all times safeguards the health and well-being of children and vulnerable adults. Staff must be aware of the organisational procedure and raising concerns about the welfare of anyone and whom they have to contact. To fulfil these duties, you will be required to attend training and development to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse or individuals at risk and to report and act on any concerns you may have appropriately.


Professional

The post holder will:

* Role model standards of care and behaviour through clinical practice
* Analyse relevant national policy within their area of expertise and advise on the impact for service, leading the implementation of changes and evaluation of processes
* Maintain professional registration and practice through CPD
* Maintain a professional portfolio to demonstrate competency in line with the advanced practice framework
* Maintain personal standards of conduct and behaviour consistent within FCMS and their independent governing body guidelines
* Ensure appropriate use of resources to meet service needs
* Recognise and act as an advocate for patients, carers, the service and the organisation
* Contribute to change as required and ensure resolution of conflict that may occur
* Promote workforce integrity and accountability within the clinical team, ensure accreditation process followed, complaints management, competency assessment, mandatory training, robust clinical induction
* Participate in regular clinical supervision
* Ensure CAS and NICE alerts are followed accordingly
* Maintain a sound knowledge of NHS policy and NICE guidance in relation to Urgent Care


Non-Medical Prescribing

You will need to possess prescribing capacity and must have a current registration with your professional body that includes V300 qualification. You must only prescribe from an agreed Personal Formulary which reflects your competency and experience and is aligned to up to date evidence / best practice guidance. You will be expected to review and develop your Personal Formulary on an annual basis.

Clinical and professional development

Education and training

* Identify development needs in a personal development plan
* Develop and distribute educational leaflets for patients
* Ensure personal, peer support and clinical supervision needs are met
* Contribute to clinical governance outcomes
* Understand and apply confidentiality guidelines
* Participate in the progress and development of clinicians and provide feedback
* Assist in implementing training in your locality


Research and development

Evaluate clinical practice through audits, undertake audits, and disseminate results. Promote best practice through clinical benchmarking and Essence of Care processes.


Health and safety

Comply with safety policies and business continuity plans, report hazards and incidents, and maintain knowledge through training.


Physical effort and working conditions

Follow manual handling guidelines, manage exposure to bodily fluids, infection control and COSHH, handle challenging situations, and manage time within shift patterns.


Most challenging parts of the role

Work under pressure in a changing, demanding environment while maintaining high standards of patient care; triage, refer or discharge independently; manage expectations and changes within clinical areas.

The main duties are not exhaustive and may be amended to meet service needs.

Experience and qualifications

Essential: minimum 2 years post registration, experience in unscheduled care, Non-Medical Prescriber (V300), minor illness qualification, teaching/mentorship qualification, and relevant professional registration. Desirable: community urgent care or ED experience, triage and paediatric qualifications, research and supervision experience.


Skills and competencies

Ability to work in a fast paced environment, strong communication, IT proficiency, and knowledge of clinical guidelines. Familiarity with Adastra, System 1 and EMIS is desirable.
