To work at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as Deputy Lead Radiographer for MRI. The service provides an MRI service and is located within the radiology department at Hillingdon Hospital.
The post holder is expected to be an effective member of the radiology team, a role model for radiographic staff, provide clinical leadership and undertakes managerial responsibilities, and maintain quality standards.
The Radiology Service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with core hours between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday. The MRI service operates 8am to 5pm every day excluding weekends.
Main duties of the job
To co‑coordinate and communicate effectively with the Modality Lead Radiographers.
To assist the Lead Radiographer with the development of protocols and procedures in MRI.
The post holder will be expected to help in the development of radiographer vetting.
To represent MRI as part of a multi‑professional team and support the work of relevant clinical networks.
To be able to relate to all manner of patients, with care, compassion and confidentiality.
To achieve and maintain skills in information technology relevant to imaging.
To be able to use the departmental radiology information systems to register patients, check patient results and generate patient appointments.
To manage and support training of radiographers, clinical imaging assistants and students in MRI.
To effectively check patient safety and implant conditions, if applicable, prior to scanning.

Job responsibilities
To be responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of the MRI department.
To undertake highly specialised comprehensive investigations of patients, including those with the most complex presentation, using advanced investigative and analytical skills and standardised protocol procedures.
To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of work, including clinical practice, and for the work and clinical practice of line‑managed staff.
To monitor appropriate skill mix of radiographic and support staff to meet service needs and developments.
Investigate, record and report incidents where necessary.
To address complaints, incidents, accidents, and grievances in accordance with departmental and Trust procedures.
Have effective communication with the MRI safety expert (MRSE).
To be responsible alongside the MRI Modality lead in checking the MRI Implant email and gaining the correct implant details for each patient to ensure utmost safety.
To be responsible for the future development of the radiology service provision by collecting and evaluating activity, demand and capacity, including analysing associated data.
To assess capacity, obtain valid informed consent and can work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
To assess and manage clinical risk within own patient caseload and within the speciality and advise colleagues on risk management.
To provide specialist advice to colleagues working within other clinical areas, and to other health‑care professionals.
Key leadership and training activities
 * Establish, lead and/or be an active member of training sessions and mandatory training.
 * Be responsible for the supervision and education of junior and senior radiographers.
 * Ensure all line‑managed staff attend mandatory training and monitor attendance.
 * Disseminate information and ensure that practice is based on best available evidence.
 * Oversee the clinical training of radiographers undertaking MRI training and maintain effective and regular contact with professional and training organisations such as imaging academies.
 * Personally aspire and encourage others to maintain high ethical and professional standards in their attitude to work.
Person Specification
Qualifications and experience:
 * HCPC registration.
 * DCR/BSc in radiography.
 * Experience in an MRI setting.
 * Experience of leading and managing a team.
 * Participation in clinical audit.
 * Quality improvement, transformation, and innovation training.
