Theatre Porter

King Edward VII's Hospital, 5-10 Beaumont Street, Marylebone, London W1G 6AA

Permanent (37.5hrs) On-Site

£28,000- £30,000 + Fantastic Benefits

Monday to Saturday

King Edward VII’s Hospital is a 56‑bed private hospital in Marylebone with four operating theatres, delivering consultant‑led care across elective, day‑case, and inpatient surgery

We provide a broad range of planned elective and day‑case surgeries across its four operating theatres, with a focus on high‑quality, consultant‑led private care. Surgical services include orthopaedic procedures, women’s health and gynaecology, urology, and general surgery. The hospital also delivers endoscopy and diagnostic procedures, ophthalmic surgery, dermatology and minor surgery, with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques, efficient patient pathways, and rapid recovery.

Key Responsibilities

1. To respond to all requests for Theatre portering services
2. Operate systems and maintain accurate logs
3. Reports and follow processes and procedures
4. Assures the safety and welfare of all staff, patients and visitors.
5. Undertake duties in accordance with Theatre Department’s policies and procedures.
6. Recognise and respond in an appropriate and proportionate manner to any situation which has the potential to threaten the safety or security or well-being of the hospital, its patients, visitors and staff.
7. Maintain effective logs and records of activity. Promote, support and encourage the seamless flow of information both to and from the Theatre portering team and the hospital at large to be able to anticipate, rather than be react to, changing circumstances within the hospital.
8. Ensure you present yourself with duty in a timely manner and are dressed and equipped so as to maintain and always display the highest professional standards.
9. To escort patients from the Theatre department to their rooms and to and from any of the hospital’s departments.
10. To perform the change of all medical gases as and when required and store empty cylinders in the appropriate area and enter the cylinder log such changes.
11. To comply with and complete any services required and any scheduled tasks requested within hours of duty.
12. Observe and report visitor and patient movement and access to restricted parts of the Hospital.
13. Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety and Environmental safety requirements.

Key Skills / Qualifications:

14. Qualified to GCSE level standard
15. Previous Portering experience within a hospital environment is essential
16. Assertive and able to deal with conflict
17. Good written and spoken English.
18. Good communication and strong interpersonal skills.
19. Excellent telephone manner.
20. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
21. Able to work on own initiative, prioritise work and meet deadlines
