The successful candidate is responsible for overseeing the efficient billing, processing, and collection of significant income streams, including tuition and accommodation fees. The role leads a specialist team ensuring effective debt management, robust financial controls, and a high-quality service experience for students.
The postholder will ensure systems and processes are modern, efficient, and compliant with regulations, while working closely with colleagues across the organisation to support students and deliver sector-leading practice in income management.
Key Responsibilities
* Leadership & Management
* Manage and develop the Student Fees team, supporting performance and professional growth.
* Lead on recruitment processes within the team as required.
* Income Collection & Control
* Oversee billing and collection of tuition, accommodation, and related fees.
* Maintain and review procedures for income control, debt collection, and fraud prevention.
* Produce income and billing reports, providing insight to senior stakeholders.
* Systems & Process Development
* Manage and improve student fee systems, ensuring effective integration with other finance and student record systems.
* Work with IT teams to deliver system and process improvements, including online payment platforms.
* Review and update fee regulations annually, recommending changes as required.
* Student Experience
* Deliver a high-quality service to students, setting and monitoring KPIs for responsiveness and accessibility.
* Collaborate with student support teams to balance compliance with student needs.
* Represent the Fees Office in communications with prospective students and families.
* Regulatory & External Compliance
* Ensure compliance with relevant financial and regulatory requirements (e.g. FCA, PCI-DSS, AML, CMA).
* Manage relationships with external stakeholders including payment providers, loan organisations, and collection agencies.
* Financial Support for Students
* Oversee the administration of bursaries, scholarships, and student loans (UK and international).
* Support complex cases by agreeing payment arrangements and enrolment decisions where necessary.
Person Specification
Essential
* Educated to A-level (or equivalent).
* Strong understanding of accounting principles and techniques.
* Excellent IT and spreadsheet skills.
* Proven experience in leading and managing a team.
* Financial/accounting experience, including credit control.
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
* High attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines.
* Customer service experience.
* Flexibility to work extended hours during peak periods.
Desirable
* Degree-level education and/or a professional financial qualification.
