Apprentice Assembly Integration and Test Technician

About the Role
As a Assembly Apprentice at Lockheed Martin, you’ll learn the hands-on skills needed to support the build of a variety of products and services for the Defence industry and other strategic customers. You will train within a supervised assembly and test environment, gradually taking on more responsibility as your skills and confidence grow.
You will learn how to:
1. Assemble and integrate mechanical components using bonded joints, composite lay-ups, and general fitting techniques.
2. Prepare composite parts by trimming, cutting, vacuum bagging and supporting autoclave set-ups.
3. Use hand tools, jigs, fixtures and basic manual machinery to create accurate features in high-precision parts.
4. Read engineering drawings and work to defined procedures and quality standards.
5. Follow safe, methodical working practices to protect high-value, sensitive hardware.
6. Work with technicians, engineers, and design teams to help improve manufacturing methods.
7. Apply problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve simple assembly or process issues.
8. Use Lean and 6S practices to maintain a tidy, efficient workspace.
Required skills, qualifications and experience
Key Responsibilities (Apprentice Level)
9. Assembly & Integration: Build sub-assemblies following instructions, drawings, and supervised guidance.
10. Composite Preparation: Assist with trimming, cutting, vacuum bagging and autoclave preparation.
11. Drilling & Machining: Learn to safely operate hand tools and basic manual machines.
12. Inspection & Testing: Measure dimensions, check features, and record simple quality data.
13. Process Improvement: Suggest ways to streamline tasks, improve tools or reduce waste.
14. Teamwork & Communication: Work closely with technicians and interact with engineering when required.
15. Problem Solving: Identify issues in your work area and contribute to solutions.
16. Lean & 6S: Help maintain an organised, safe, and efficient workshop environment. Training Included
You must have:
17. GCSE Maths & English at grades 9–4 (A*–C), and
18. Either:2 A-Levels (including Maths or Physics), orA Level 3 Extended Diploma in an engineering-related subject.
We’re looking for someone who:
19. Has a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
20. Enjoys practical, hands-on tasks or has technical hobbies (please include these on your CV).
21. Has an interest in mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing.
