We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Commodity Manager to join our Procurement team, reporting to the Global Sourcing Manager. As part of the Satellite Platform team, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering our sourcing activities—making sure we have the materials and services we need to build world-class spacecraft in our purpose-built facilities globally, while also helping grow our supply chain in new locations. This role is based out of our Glasgow office.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Ownership of Spire’s sourcing needs for mechanical finished components, CNC machining and sub-con operations.
2. Collaborating with colleagues across the business to define and execute the commodity strategy, including supplier engagement and development, cost management, technology road map, and vendor selection.
3. Mitigate supply risks including single sources, supplier capacity, lead times, commercial volatility and quality.
4. Manage vendor performance through KPIs, scorecards and business reviews.
5. Introduce and develop commercial agreements with key vendors to secure preferential pricing, lower inventory holding, reduce lead times and realise cost savings.
6. Build excellent relationships with, and interrogate, our existing supply base to understand their capabilities, dependencies, gaps and ability to grow with us.
7. Proactively research and engage with potential new suppliers from initial introduction, capability analysis, commercial suitability and on-boarding.
8. Lead sourcing activities for NPI projects.
9. Prepare and lead internal meetings to communicate our strategy, give a forum for Engineering input, capture actions and drive resolution.
10. Seek every opportunity for cost savings while maintaining first class service levels, technical compliance and quality standards.
11. Support the development and reporting of departmental KPIs, monitoring the successes and challenges with your category, with a relentless focus on continuous improvement.
12. Support the wider Procurement team to manage department workload as necessary.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
13. A positive mind-set and determination to drive actions to a conclusion.
14. Commodity Management experience, preferably in the mechanical engineering discipline.
15. Proven track record of leading sourcing initiatives.
16. Analysing supplier performance and commercial offers.
17. Technical knowledge of mechanical components and manufacturing - including specifications and manufacturing processes is highly advantageous.
18. Risk management and mitigation skills within the supply chain.
19. Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
20. Experience with building and maintaining effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
21. Robust working knowledge of all Purchasing related activities and processes.
22. Ability to translate data into actionable tasks.
23. Good team player with strong inter-personal skills.
24. Experience of MRP and business platforms for data gathering.
25. Strong written and verbal communication skills and confidence to communicate at all levels within a culturally diverse workforce.
26. Demonstrates strong IT literacy, with the ability to use relevant systems, tools, and software effectively
This position will require you to work five days per week in the office.
Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses—this is not something candidates need to have before applying. #LI-MI1
