ASC Teaching Assistant

Are you calm, patient, and passionate about supporting children with autism? We’re looking for a dedicated ASC Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in Gateshead, supporting pupils with autism and associated learning needs.
This is a rewarding role where you will play an important part in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that allows children to flourish both academically and emotionally.
The Role
As an ASC Teaching Assistant, you will:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism and related needs
* Assist with structured learning, communication development, and social interaction skills
* Implement tailored strategies to help pupils regulate emotions and manage behaviour
* Use sensory and visual supports to aid understanding and engagement
* Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to deliver personalised learning
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
* Experience supporting children or young people with autism or other SEND
* A calm, compassionate, and resilient approach
* Strong communication skills and confidence using visual and sensory aids
* An understanding of strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or social stories (desirable but not essential)
* A commitment to promoting inclusion, independence, and wellbeing

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
