Job overview

Would you like to work in a developing and progressive team, with a specific commitment to support the development of the Enhanced Continuity of Care Team in providing continuity of care throughout pregnancy, birth and in the postpartum period. To support the Maternity Service Senior Leadership Team in preparation for the expansion of the
midwifery continuity teams.

To work with the Consultant Midwife, Matron for Midwifery led services
and the wider Midwifery Team in a partnership project with the Local Maternity and Neonatal System to build on the 12 building blocks to continuity of carer and plan the implementation of an additional continuity of carer team.

Main duties of the job

To support the Maternity Service Senior Leadership Team with planning implementation of maternity care to meet the needs of the service users living within the highest level of social deprivation and development of clinical pathway and protocols.


To provide the Maternity Service Senior Leadership Team project management processes such as project documentation, actions plans, data collection and analysis, monitoring and oversight and
quality improvement updates.


To support the operational/clinical leads in developing an implementation strategy to meet Trust and national guidelines and standards.
To contribute to business plans and the strategic development of maternity services including supporting the project managed introduction of newly commissioned services, divisional operational plans, and CIP schemes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• The duties and responsibilities listed below should be undertaken in accordance with the levels of competence as defined in the KSF outline for this post. In addition, all staff are expected to act in accordance with the values and behaviours of the organisation.


• Work with the assigned clinical team and specialty lead to project manage work streams based around the twelve building blocks for continuity of carer implementation, to support the planned introduction of the next continuity of care team within the directorate.


• Use bench marking data and work with the Maternity Service Senior Leadership Team, with partner organisations and with planning, finance and CI teams.


• Work with the Maternity Service Senior Leadership Team to update smart action logs, support data analysis, identify quality improvement/assurance and complete project update templates


• Explore implementation costs and potential savings to assess the financial impact of the project.


• Manage the implementation plans for the Continuity of Carer team project, developing and managing these, progressing and reporting any risks and issues to the Maternity Service Senior Leadership Team.


• Management of budget where appropriate.


• Liaise with appropriate functions across the Division and in the LMNS.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

1. Degree preferably and/or equivalent extensive knowledge in specialist areas or relevant experience
2. Project management qualification or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

3. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/MSc Project Management or equivalent
4. Registered Midwife

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

5. Strong track record in delivering and/or influencing change management, particularly where change may be of a contentious nature
6. Strong evidence of stakeholder engagement and project delivery across complex stakeholder relationships e.g transformation of clinical models
7. Sound understanding and practice in relation to information governance
8. Robust knowledge, understanding and appreciation of national health and maternity care policy in order to better deliver LTHTr key projects but also to be able to anticipate clinical model changes, interpret and analyse the impact and support the directorate to amend/refine Trust plans and projects
9. Strong evidence of working within national policy frameworks to deliver strategic level programmes and/or projects

Desirable criteria

10. Demonstrable success in leading and delivering complex strategic level programmes involving multiple stakeholders across multiple organisational boundaries
11. Experience of budget planning

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

12. Strong influencing, persuasion and negotiating skills to gain agreement from multiple stakeholders
13. Proven ability to engage stakeholders
14. Proven and evidenced ability to interpret complex information from multiple sources and translate into clear strategic project delivery plans

Desirable criteria

15. Business case writing skills
16. Strong ability to present complex information to large groups and where there may be significant challenge from the audience
